Western Union Foundation 2021 Impact Report
The Western Union Foundation is excited to launch its 2021 Impact Report, which includes highlights of the programs, projects, and people who were positively impacted by the Foundation’s work. Throughout the year, the Foundation was able to empower and reach 1.25 million people by providing meaningful grants to nonprofits that connect migrants to economic opportunity and support communities during times of crisis. This achievement was made possible through generous investments from Western Union and its employees, customers, and partners.
The Foundation’s 2021 impact included increasing the earning potential of nearly 16,000 people who completed in-depth skill building courses, creating brighter futures for 40 college students through meaningful scholarships, and providing emergency relief to more than 1 million people during natural and humanitarian crises.
2021 marked the second full year of the Foundation’s Opportunity Beyond Borders commitment; a three-year, $15 million investment to provide migrant and refugee young adults with the job skills, education and resources needed to gain economic opportunity. Through these efforts, the Foundation’s grants strategically focused on three pillars of work:

Skill building and education for youth in underserved and migrant populations;

Inclusion efforts to support migrant integration into host communities; and

Crisis and natural disaster relief, including COVID-19 response.
The Foundation’s 2021 impact is a testament to the generosity and support from Western Union employees. More than 75% of Western Union’s employees volunteered their time or made a charitable donation to the Foundation or other nonprofits, driving $2.5 million in contributions and nearly 11,000 hours of volunteer time.
