A message from CEO Hikmet Ersek

COVID-19 By Hikmet Ersek, Western Union CEO Mar 20, 2020

At Western Union, we know that for many of you, home is more than one place. As you work and try to stay safe in one part of the world, you feel an ever-greater sense of love and responsibility for your family and loved ones across the globe as we all come together in the global fight against COVID-19. As someone living outside his nation of birth myself, I understand completely.

You and our other 150 million customers trust us to move your money. We take our role in getting your money to the places, where and when you most need it, very seriously – during uncertain times most of all.

Western Union is open for business. WU.com is available in more than 70 countries and territories, and the Western Union Mobile App is available in 40 countries. You can send money, track a transfer, and check pricing and exchange rates 24 hours a day, seven days a week on these digital channels.

Additionally, retail Agent locations are active and open. They are accepting and paying out cash transactions, except in areas where Western Union and other businesses have been directed by local authorities to suspend operations. We encourage our customers to check the agent locator for the most accurate information, and to call their location before visiting.

Customers may initiate a transaction via WU.com or on the Western Union Mobile App and pay out into a bank account or digital wallet in more than 100 countries. Whether you are sending money to family at home or a loved one stranded in a foreign country, you can count on Western Union to be there when you need us most.

Last month, Western Union and the Western Union Foundation launched a USD $1M global matching challenge to help fight COVID-19. The Western Union Foundation is accepting contributions between now and April 14, 2020. The aid will be pledged to local and global NGOs, including Give2Asia and International Medical Corps for ongoing relief efforts throughout the world, including to purchase supplies, equipment and frontline medical treatment. You can donate here.

People everywhere have learned, over generations, that they can trust Western Union to be there in both good times and bad. We intend to maintain that trust today.
